The result of our exaltation in Christ and the response to our expounding the word of God is that we are to, as Christ tells us, “make disciples of all nations.” This means we MUST share the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ and what he has done for sinners. So the question is “how do we share the gospel?” 1) We must convince people of sin and the consequences of sin. 2)We must how them what christ has done to take care of that sin. 3) We must show them how they can respond to Christ’s sacrifice and obtain eternal life. Below is an outline of what that looks like.
Galatians 3:24 says, “Therefore the law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.” The law, typified by the 10 commandments, is a way to lead people to Christ by showing them the, “bad news” of the gospel. In order for people to understand how precious Christ is they must know how wretched they are first and so we must show them this. At Living Hope we want to kindly show people that they are sinners and that we have a righteous God who does not let the guilty go free (Exodus 34:7). Once someone understands they are guilty then they can ask the LORD for forgiveness and repent of those sins and trust in Christ for Salvation.
You might be wondering, “What is the Gospel?” The Gospel means “Good News!” and specifically it means the good news of what Jesus has done for sinners. Specifically that Jesus Christ, being fully God and fully man, became like man in every way except sinning. That he lived the life that all of us should have lived and died the death we deserved to die. His death was in the place of guilty sinners. He took the punishment for sinners so that sinners might walk free.
Unfortunately this is where the church in America has not done so well. We have traded the truth of what God has told us in his word for an easier more pragmatic approach. First of all the scriptures say that man can not save themselves. No one seeks after God and therefore anyone who is saved it is a miracle, wrought in the heart of man by God alone. Second, both repentance and faith are what God uses to save men. It is not praying a prayer, walking an isle, or going to church every Sunday. None of those things save anyone. God saves men and men respond by repenting (i.e. turning from their sin and to God) and trusting in(or having faith in) Christ for salvation.
Maybe one of the most distinct things about Living Hope is that we believe that sharing the gospel is an URGENT thing. We should not wait around while men and women are perishing beside us. We must take the gospel to them. We do this by leveraging our already built relationships to share the gospel with friends and family, intentionally pursuing relationships with unbelievers to share the gospel with them, and knocking on doors and talking to people about the gospel.
